Daniel Lopatin, performing as Oneohtrix Point Never (OPN), was born in Wayland, Massachusetts on July 7, 1982 to a Soviet immigrant family. The stage name combines a Massachusetts radio station call sign (Magic 106.7) with wordplay. He launched his recording career in the late 2000s with extensive vaporwave and ambient material across multiple cassette labels (his hypnagogic pop / vaporwave material predates the formalization of those genres). His landmark albums Replica (2011) and R Plus Seven (2013) established him as one of the most important contemporary electronic music composers. He launched his own Software Recording Co. label in 2010. He moved to Warp Records for Garden of Delete (2015) and subsequent material. He has parallel work as a film score composer for the Safdie brothers' films (Good Time, 2017; Uncut Gems, 2019) and Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space (2019). His collaboration with The Weeknd - particularly his executive production work on Dawn FM (2022) - has brought him mainstream attention.
