About Nails
Nails formed in Oxnard, California in 2009 around Todd Jones (formerly of Terror, Carry On, and others). Their distinctive blend of hardcore punk, grindcore, powerviolence, and death metal - with extremely short song durations (most under two minutes) and uncompromising sonic intensity - has positioned them as one of the most influential contemporary hardcore/grindcore bands. Their three full-length albums Unsilent Death (2010), Abandon All Life (2013), and You Will Never Be One of Us (2016) were all produced by Kurt Ballou (Converge). The band has been inactive since 2016, with fan and critical anticipation of any subsequent material.
Sound and style
Nails's sound combines hardcore punk, grindcore, powerviolence, death metal, sludge metal, and crust punk with Jones's distinctive growled vocal delivery, extremely fast tempos with slow-tempo breakdowns, and uncompromising contemporary metallic hardcore production approaches (Kurt Ballou production aesthetic).
