Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte was born in Viña del Mar, Chile on May 2, 1983. She launched her recording career in Chile in the early 2000s before relocating to Mexico City in 2007. She has been based in Mexico since, with cultural ties to both her native Chile and her adopted Mexico. Her 2015 album Mon Laferte, Vol. 1 brought her international Latin music attention. Her 2018 album Norma was a critical breakthrough. She has been involved in social justice causes - particularly the 2019 Chilean protests, where she famously displayed a topless protest sign at the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards. She has won two Latin Grammy Awards.
