Molchat Doma formed in Minsk, Belarus in 2017 around Egor Shkutko, Roman Komogortsev, and Pavel Kozlov. They have been associated with the contemporary post-Soviet post-punk and synth-pop revival scene alongside contemporaries like ШМЕЛИ and Cold Wave. Their 2018 album Etazhi - featuring the song Sudno (Boris Ryzhy) - became viral on TikTok in 2020, with the broader Eastern European concrete brutalist architecture aesthetic of their album covers becoming widely circulated. They signed with Sacred Bones Records for Monument (2020) and have continued releasing material across multiple decades.
