About Miguel
Miguel Jontel Pimentel was born in San Pedro, California on October 23, 1985 to a Mexican American father and African American mother. He launched his recording career in his teens with Black Ice Records and Jive Records before signing with RCA Records and releasing his debut All I Want Is You (2010). His 2012 album Kaleidoscope Dream - featuring the landmark single Adorn (which won the Grammy for Best R&B Song in 2013) - was a critical and commercial breakthrough. He has continued releasing material across multiple decades with varied stylistic exploration.
Sound and style
Miguel's sound combines R&B, contemporary R&B, alternative R&B, neo-soul, funk, and pop with his distinctive vocal delivery (use of falsetto and layered vocal arrangements), arrangements drawing on classic Prince, D'Angelo, and Marvin Gaye reference points alongside contemporary R&B and electronic music influences.
