Metro Boomin

Metro Boomin is Leland Tyler Wayne, the St. Louis-born producer whose 808s and moody synths defined trap across the 2010s and 2020s on records for Future, Drake, Travis Scott, and 21 Savage. Heroes & Villains (2022) and Savage Mode II (2020) are the ones to grab first. Shop Metro Boomin vinyl, CDs, and reissues at Wax Trax Records.

About Metro Boomin

Leland Tyler Wayne, performing as Metro Boomin, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 16, 1993. He launched his recording career in his teens by producing for Atlanta hip hop artists via the internet before moving to Atlanta. He attended Morehouse College briefly before pursuing music full-time. He has become one of the most commercially dominant trap producers of the 2010s and 2020s, with extensive credits across Future (multiple albums), Drake, Travis Scott, 21 Savage (multiple collaborative full-lengths), the Weeknd, Migos, and dozens of others. His signature producer tag if Young Metro don't trust you, I'm gon' shoot you (a Future quote from Future's What a Time to Be Alive, 2015) has become culturally embedded. His 2018 debut LP Not All Heroes Wear Capes brought him new attention as a primary artist rather than purely a producer. His 2024 collaborative LPs We Don't Trust You and We Still Don't Trust You with Future were commercial breakthroughs, particularly with the Kendrick Lamar feature track Like That (which contributed to the Kendrick-Drake beef of 2024). He won the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for the Spider-Verse soundtrack in 2024.

Sound and style

Metro Boomin's sound combines trap, hip hop, Southern hip hop, gangsta rap, alternative hip hop, and contemporary R&B with his distinctive trap production aesthetic (signature 808 bass patterns, atmospheric synthesizers, and minor key melodic content), and collaboration with the broader Atlanta and Southern hip hop community.
