About MAVI
Omavi Edoro Minder, performing as MAVI, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 25, 1999. He attended Howard University. He launched his recording career in the late 2010s with self-released material and has been independent across his catalog. He has been positioned within the contemporary alternative hip hop and conscious hip hop scene alongside Earl Sweatshirt, Navy Blue, Pink Siifu, MIKE, and others - a loose collective of contemporary rappers exploring abstract, jazz-influenced production and literary lyrical approaches.
Sound and style
MAVI's sound combines hip hop, alternative hip hop, conscious hip hop, abstract hip hop, jazz rap, and underground hip hop with his distinctive vocal delivery, dense literary lyrical content addressing Black American experience, identity, family, and broader philosophical themes, and arrangements drawing on contemporary alternative hip hop production aesthetics.
