About Maribou State
Maribou State formed in Hertfordshire, England in 2011 around Chris Davids and Liam Ivory. They signed with Counter Records (a Ninja Tune sub-label) for their catalog. Their 2015 debut Portraits and 2018 follow-up Kingdoms in Colour established them in the contemporary downtempo and electronic music scene alongside Bonobo, Jon Hopkins, and others. They have continued releasing material with international touring across multiple decades.
Sound and style
Maribou State's sound combines electronic, downtempo, house, deep house, electronica, ambient, and worldbeat with extensive atmospheric production, vocal contributions from various collaborators (including Holly Walker), and arrangements drawing on global music influences and classic downtempo electronic traditions.
