Mac DeMarco

Mac DeMarco is a Canadian indie rock singer-songwriter, born in Duncan, British Columbia in 1990 and raised in Edmonton, who turned jangly, chorus-soaked slacker rock into a whole aesthetic. Salad Days (2014) and 2 (2012) are the classics; since 2017 he has released everything on his own Mac's Record Label. Browse Mac DeMarco vinyl, CDs, and reissues at Wax Trax Records.

About Mac DeMarco

Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV, performing as Mac DeMarco, was born in Duncan, British Columbia on April 30, 1990 and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He launched his recording career as Makeout Videotape in the late 2000s before adopting the Mac DeMarco name in 2012. He signed with Captured Tracks for his early catalog and has continued releasing material across multiple decades. He launched Mac's Record Label in 2017 for his subsequent material. His distinctive jangly vintage-influenced indie rock aesthetic and gap-toothed laid-back stage presence have made him a cult figure across contemporary indie rock.

Sound and style

Mac DeMarco's sound combines indie rock, jangle pop, slacker rock, jangle rock, lo-fi indie, and dream pop with his distinctive vocal delivery, jangly chorus-effect guitar work, and arrangements drawing on classic 1970s pop, soft rock, and contemporary indie rock traditions.
