About Logic

Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, performing as Logic, was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland on January 22, 1990. He is of mixed African American and white heritage. He launched his recording career as Psychological in the late 2000s before adopting the Logic name. He signed with Def Jam Recordings in 2013 and released his debut Under Pressure (2014). His 2017 album Everybody - featuring the song 1-800-273-8255 (titled with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number) - was widely cited as reducing American suicide rates following its release. He announced his retirement from music in 2020, with his fifth Def Jam album No Pressure (2020) intended as his closing statement, but returned with multiple subsequent releases including Vinyl Days (2022) and Ultra 85 (2024).

Sound and style

Logic's sound combines hip hop, alternative hip hop, conscious hip hop, pop rap, and East Coast hip hop with his distinctive flow, technical lyrical approach drawing on classic 1990s hip hop traditions, and lyrical content addressing race, mental health, social issues, and personal experience.
