Jarad Anthony Higgins, performing as Juice WRLD, was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 2, 1998. He launched his recording career on SoundCloud as a teenager. His 2018 single Lucid Dreams (which sampled Sting's Shape of My Heart) became a international hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100. He signed with Grade A Productions / Interscope Records and released his debut Goodbye & Good Riddance (2018). His sophomore album Death Race for Love (2019) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. He died from accidental opioid and oxycodone overdose at Chicago's Midway Airport on December 8, 2019 at age 21, six days after his 21st birthday. His posthumous album Legends Never Die (2020) also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The deluxe Fighting Demons (2021) continued the posthumous release of his recordings. His foundational influence on contemporary emo rap, SoundCloud rap, and broader hip hop is widely cited.
