George Kusunoki Miller, performing as Joji, was born in Osaka, Japan on September 18, 1992 to a Japanese mother and Australian father. He moved to New York in his late teens. He became famous in the early 2010s for his YouTube comedy work as Filthy Frank (with characters including Pink Guy) - the Filthy Frank video Harlem Shake (2013) is widely credited with launching the Harlem Shake viral phenomenon. He retired the Filthy Frank channel in 2017 to focus on the Joji music project, signing with 88rising (the Asian-American hip hop and R&B label home to Rich Brian, Niki, and others). His debut Ballads 1 (2018) became the first album by an Asian-born solo artist to top the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
