They released their self-titled live debut Jane's Addiction (1987) on Triple X Records before signing with Warner Bros. Their major-label debut Nothing's Shocking (1988) and follow-up Ritual de lo Habitual (1990) became landmark documents of the broader alternative rock movement that was about to break through commercially. The band dissolved in 1991 - Perry Farrell organized the Lollapalooza festival as a farewell tour. They have reformed in multiple configurations (1997, 2001-2004, 2008-present) with Eric Avery rejoining for the 2008-2010 and 2024 reunions. A September 2024 reunion tour ended after Farrell physically attacked Navarro onstage during a Boston show. Dave Navarro and Stephen Perkins have been members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Navarro) and other projects. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee multiple times.
