Jermaine Lamarr Cole was born in Frankfurt, West Germany on January 28, 1985, to an African-American father and a white American mother. He was raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina from age eight. He attended St. John's University in New York on a full academic scholarship, graduating with a degree in communication and business. He launched the Dreamville label in 2007 and signed with Roc Nation in 2009 as Jay-Z's first signing. His debut studio album Cole World: The Sideline Story (2011) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. He has continued releasing material across multiple decades, with extensive Dreamville roster acts (Bas, EarthGang, JID, Cozz, Ari Lennox, Lute, Omen) signed to his label. His Might Delete Later (2024) included the 7 Minute Drill diss track responding to Kendrick Lamar, which he later partially walked back. 2025 saw the album The Off-Season Deluxe and other Dreamville material.
J.
