About Greensky Bluegrass
Greensky Bluegrass formed in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2000. The band combines traditional bluegrass instrumentation with jam band approaches in their live performances, with extensive improvisational sections. They have been on their own Big Blue Zoo Records throughout their career and have built a sustained audience through extensive touring in the jam band and bluegrass festival circuits.
Sound and style
Greensky Bluegrass's sound combines bluegrass, jam band, progressive bluegrass, and Americana with traditional bluegrass instrumentation (dobro, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bass - no drums) integrated with extended improvisational arrangements drawing on jam band, rock, and contemporary indie influences.
