Flogging Molly formed in Los Angeles in 1997 around Dublin-born singer Dave King and his wife, fiddler Bridget Regan. King had previously fronted the hard rock band Fastway in the 1980s. The band signed with SideOneDummy Records for their landmark Swagger (2000), establishing them as central figures in American Celtic punk alongside Dropkick Murphys and the Pogues. They moved to ANTI- Records for the 2017 album Life Is Good and have continued there since.
Flogging Molly's sound combines Celtic punk, folk punk, Irish folk, and punk rock with extensive use of traditional Irish instruments (fiddle, tin whistle, accordion, mandolin) integrated with punk rock instrumentation.
