About Fleshwater
Fleshwater formed in Boston in 2017 as a shoegaze-oriented side project for members of the metalcore band Vein.fm. The band's lineup centers on Anthony DiDio alongside vocalist Marisa Shirar, who brings a distinctively different vocal aesthetic compared to DiDio's harder Vein.fm work. Their 2022 debut We're Not Here to Be Loved on Closed Casket Activities became a critical phenomenon in the contemporary shoegaze and heavy alternative scenes.
Sound and style
Fleshwater's sound combines shoegaze, alternative rock, post-hardcore, and dream pop with heavy distorted guitar work, atmospheric production, and dual-vocal arrangements between DiDio and Shirar. Their work bridges the contemporary heavy alternative scene with shoegaze and dream pop revival traditions.
