Tahliah Debrett Barnett, performing as FKA twigs, was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire on January 16, 1988. She trained as a dancer and worked extensively as a music video and stage dancer before launching her solo career in 2012. She signed with Young Turks (the XL Recordings subsidiary that has since been renamed Young) for her EP1 (2012) and EP2 (2013), with her full-length debut LP1 (2014) becoming a critical phenomenon and Mercury Prize nominee. Magdalene (2019) and her subsequent work have continued her position as one of the defining experimental pop artists of the 2010s and 2020s.
