About Dry Cleaning
Dry Cleaning formed in South London in 2017. Vocalist Florence Shaw joined the existing instrumental lineup of Tom Dowse, Lewis Maynard, and Nick Buxton after years working as a visual artist and university lecturer. The band signed with 4AD Records and released their debut full-length New Long Leg in 2021, with Stumpwork following in 2022. They have become defining figures in the contemporary UK post-punk scene alongside Black Country, New Road, Squid, and others.
Sound and style
Dry Cleaning's sound combines post-punk, indie rock, art rock, and spoken word with Shaw's distinctive deadpan, spoken-word-style vocal delivery - frequently incorporating fragments of overheard speech, found phrases, and surreal observational material - set against tightly arranged post-punk instrumental backgrounds.
