DIIV (originally spelled Dive) formed in Brooklyn in 2011 as the solo project of Zachary Cole Smith, expanding into a full band shortly thereafter. The name change to DIIV in 2012 came after legal pressure from the Belgian band Dive. They have remained on Captured Tracks (the Brooklyn-based label) throughout their catalog.
