Dave Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on January 9, 1967 and moved to the United States as a child. He formed the Dave Matthews Band in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991 with LeRoi Moore (saxophone, 1961-2008), Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Boyd Tinsley (violin, 1992-2018), and Peter Griesar (keyboards, 1992-1993). Their independent debut Remember Two Things (1993) and 1994 RCA signing led to extensive commercial success across the 1990s and 2000s.
