Courtney Barnett was born in Sydney, Australia on November 3, 1987 and is based in Melbourne. She founded Milk! Records with then-partner Jen Cloher in 2012 as a vehicle for her own recordings and other Melbourne indie acts. Her early double-EP A Sea of Split Peas (2013, collecting two earlier EPs) attracted international attention. Her debut full-length Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit (2015) earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. She also collaborated with Kurt Vile on the joint album Lotta Sea Lice (2017).
