Cindy Lee

Cindy Lee is the recording name of Canadian musician Patrick Flegel, formerly of the experimental rock band Women. The 2024 double album Diamond Jubilee — first released as a free website download — became a critical phenomenon: two-plus hours of ghostly lo-fi pop that topped year-end lists. About Cindy Lee

Cindy Lee is the recording name of Patrick Flegel, the Canadian musician formerly of the Calgary-based experimental rock band Women (2007-2010). After Women's dissolution, Flegel began releasing material as Cindy Lee in 2012. The project has released multiple albums through Superior Viaduct, W.25th, and self-released formats, with extensive cassette and CD-R release runs alongside official LP pressings. The 2024 self-released double album Diamond Jubilee became a critical phenomenon, appearing on numerous year-end best-of lists despite an unconventional distribution model that initially launched the album as a free Geocities-style website download.

Sound and style

Cindy Lee's sound combines lo-fi indie, dream pop, drone, slowcore, and noise pop with Flegel's androgynous vocal delivery and heavily processed production drawing on 1950s and 1960s American pop reference points alongside contemporary experimental music. Diamond Jubilee in particular was praised for its sprawling 32-track structure across more than two hours of music.
