About Bright Eyes

Bright Eyes formed in Omaha, Nebraska in 1995 around Conor Oberst, who was 15 at the time. The project quickly became the flagship act of Saddle Creek Records (the label Oberst co-founded with his older brother Justin and others). The core long-running creative trio is Oberst, multi-instrumentalist and producer Mike Mogis, and multi-instrumentalist and arranger Nathaniel Walcott, with extensive guest contributors across albums. The band went on hiatus in 2011 and reunited in 2020 for Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was.

Sound and style

Bright Eyes' sound combines indie rock, indie folk, alt-country, and chamber pop with confessional, often political songwriting. Their arrangements range from intimate acoustic to large ensemble orchestral, with Mogis's production approach incorporating tape distortion, found sound, and lush instrumental layering.
