Big Thief formed in Brooklyn in 2015 by Adrianne Lenker and Buck Meek, who had previously collaborated as a duo. The full band added Max Oleartchik and James Krivchenia. They signed with Saddle Creek for their first two albums and moved to 4AD for U.F.O.F. (2019), where they have remained.
