Avril Ramona Lavigne was born in Belleville, Ontario on September 27, 1984. She signed with Arista Records (Sony) in 2000 at age 16 and released her debut album Let Go in June 2002, which produced the international hits Complicated, Sk8er Boi, and I'm With You. The album sold over 16 million copies worldwide. She has continued releasing through Arista/RCA/Sony, BMG (Head Above Water, 2019), and most recently her own DTA Records (Love Sux, 2022).
