Automatic is an American post-punk trio from Los Angeles, formed in 2017 — Izzy Glaudini, Halle Saxon, and Lola Dompé, daughter of Bauhaus's Kevin Haskins — and named after a Go-Go's song. Automatic formed in Los Angeles in 2017 from the city's DIY music scene. The three members are Izzy Glaudini (synths, vocals), Halle Saxon (bass, vocals), and Lola Dompé (drums, vocals). Dompé is the daughter of Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus and was previously a member of the band Blackblack. The trio took their name from the Go-Go's 1981 song Automatic from the album Beauty and the Beat. They signed to Stones Throw Records in June 2019 and released their debut album Signal in September 2019.
Automatic's sound combines post-punk, synth punk, dub reggae, and motorik rhythms with influences drawn from NEU!, Suicide, and Bauhaus alongside contemporary minimalism. Their arrangements feature analog synths, fretless bass, and propulsive drumming, with shared vocal duties across the trio.
Stones Throw pressings of Signal and Excess have appeared in multiple color variants, including bright red and other limited editions. The Signal LP has been reissued.
