Arctic Monkeys formed in High Green, Sheffield in 2002. The teenage lineup of Alex Turner (vocals, guitar), Jamie Cook (guitar), Andy Nicholson (bass), and Matt Helders (drums) built a following through demos circulated on file-sharing networks before signing to Domino Recording Company. Andy Nicholson left after the debut album and was replaced by Nick O'Malley in 2006. The band has remained on Domino throughout their career.
Arctic Monkeys' early work was rooted in indie rock and post-punk revival, with witty, observational lyrics about working-class British life.
