Architects formed in Brighton, England in 2004 around twin brothers Dan and Tom Searle, who served as drummer and guitarist/primary songwriter respectively. Sam Carter joined as vocalist in 2007 and has remained the band's frontman since. Tom Searle was the band's principal creative force until his death from skin cancer in August 2016, shortly after the release of All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us. Dan Searle has continued the band with Josh Middleton joining as guitarist in 2017. The band has released through Distort, Century Media, and Epitaph at various points.
Architects' sound combines metalcore with progressive metal, djent, and post-hardcore, with technical guitar work, polyrhythmic compositions, and politically and personally engaged lyrics. Their later albums have incorporated more electronic and atmospheric production alongside their core heavy approach.
