About Angel Olsen

Angel Olsen was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 22, 1987 and raised in the city. She moved to Chicago in her early twenties and began performing as a backing vocalist for Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy) before launching her solo career. Her debut full-length Half Way Home (2012) appeared on Bathetic Records, and she signed with Jagjaguwar in 2014. She has remained on Jagjaguwar through her subsequent catalog, with her album Big Time (2022) being preceded by the EP Aisles (2021) and followed by the EP Forever Means (2023).

Sound and style

Angel Olsen's sound has evolved significantly across her catalog. Her early work was rooted in spare, lo-fi indie folk; My Woman (2016) introduced fuller rock arrangements; All Mirrors (2019) featured elaborate orchestral production; and Big Time (2022) returned to a more direct country and Americana-influenced approach. Her vocal style draws on classic American singing traditions from country to soul.
