Duane Davis, Supreme Arbiter of Taste James White and the Blacks – Melt Yourself Down

“Cold funk so brittle you’ll get splinters in your ear just listening to it! James White, aka James Chance, aka James Siegfried from Milwaukee, was the famously pugilistic singer, saxophonist, surrealist of the early days of the New York No Wave explosion from the late 1970s. Well known for jumping into the audience to attack men (or women) and proceed to get his ass kicked, James pioneered the brutal, crack kneed, speed wrecked dancefloor warfare of the various Sexes of the Seventies.

Who’s it for: Free Jazz addicts and James Brown fans who know it’s the funk not the color that counts.”

Erica- Jelly Roll – Beautifully Broken
“A little country, a little gospel, a little hip hop, Jelly Roll ticks a few boxes and makes me want to sing along and tap my toes on the bus home from work.”

Sarm Zeeb Unwound – New Plastic Ideas

“Unwound played this in full at the Gothic last monday! It was crazy! Unwound at their loudest- feedback and amp noise and crazy drumming and all the good shit. Sarah Lund is the coolest person ever.”
