Why our Aurora grand opening will make you skip your Saturday plans
Before we use comically large scissors to cut the red ribbon this Saturday, we wanted to share why opening this new storefront is important to us, and why the Grand Opening is a can’t miss event.
Since we first joined the roster of local businesses at Stanley Marketplace, the community there embraced not only our vinyl, but our staff and our family. It has become the location where we’re most likely to hear a foreign language and the location where we are most likely to introduce vinyl to toddlers. In other words it’s the location where we’re selling the most Bluey and the most Luis Miguel (aka “El Sol de Mexico”).
As a family, our kids enjoy being there and as a store that digs deep into all genres and styles globally, we love Aurora’s grand diversity of communities with roots around the world. These are the kinds of communities that we identify with as Americans and as immigrants ourselves.
We’d love to see you as we celebrate this new store, and we’re pulling out all the stops for the party. The live band lineup includes Dressy Bessy, Lady Denim, and Tomato Soup, with an all-vinyl DJ set from Tinsel Junk. We also have turntable and ticket giveaways that have our friends asking if we can rig their win (answer: we can’t). All in all it could prove to be the biggest grand opening party Wax Trax has ever seen.
Why are we going so hard for this grand opening? Consider it our graduation party from the hallway kiosk. With the full “real” store in Stanley, we’re quadruplingthe kiosk’s vinyl selection and exponentially expanding the CD and cassette selection. The shop will also feature used and new stereo equipment (including replacement styli and cartridges), audio accessories, and other music related merch. Starting on Saturday, we’ll also be buying used vinyl, cassettes, CDs and stereo equipment at this location.
With the larger space, we’ll also be hosting regular in-store events, such as in-stores, DJ sets, listening parties, and, of course, Record Store Day and RSD Black Friday. We will definitely have your Bing Crosby, your Vince Guaraldi, and your Willie Colon holiday records when the snow starts falling this winter.
Here’s what you can expect this Saturday:
10AM – We open doors! Once the aforementioned scissors cut that ribbon, folks are welcome to stream into the new Stanley Marketplace shop. The store will have scads of new records, a used international section chock-full of Salsa records, as well as an incredible used drop including classic jazz and rock and roll titles. We’ll have complimentary craft soda and snacks and the first 100 customers will get a free custom tote we ordered for the occasion. 10AM – 12PM – We’ll have our giveaway wheel up and spinning. From this wheel, you can win a variety of free vinyl, CD, band promo merch such as posters, stickers, coloring pages and more, Beatles tote bags, and donated swag from Cerebral Brewing, Victrola, and Audio-Technica. We’ll likely get the wheel spinning again post-music!
12PM – Live music kicks off with a live Tomato Soup set! Tomato Soup is an indie folk rock band based in Denver. With roots in folk storytelling and a taste for genre-bending chaos, Tomato Soup lives somewhere between intimate campfire vibes and full-blown indie eruption.
1PM – We’re keeping the music rolling with Lady Denim. Lady Denim officially surfaced in January of 2019 while attending Colorado State University. The band pulls elements of 80’s pop and Indie Rock together to create an upbeat unison.
2PM – We’re closing out the live bands with the one and only Dressy Bessy. Centered around frontwoman Tammy Ealon’s angular melodies, Dressy Bessy has been one Denver’s most successful local bands since it was founded in the late 90s. They’ll perform a mix of their signature indie twee-pop and something more punky.
3-6PM – We’re stoked to welcome the formidable Tinsel Junk for a free all-vinyl DJ set. Known for their mix of latin soul, lowrider oldies, funk, and old-school hip-hop, they’ve excitedly thrown in together a set to help us celebrate. Expect throwbacks to get you groovin’ until 6PM.
