3rd album from London band—with four vocalists, two guitars and keyboards, Toy creates a full, lush psychedelic sound. Sometimes it sounds almost orchestral, soaring with a celestial pop radiance. Other times, the melody moves in unexpected directions, seeking bits of subtle discord and strange tempo changes. Overall, the songs feel like they’re laid back in a swirl of kaleidoscopic pop hooks wandering through a maze of gauzy fog. You might hear bits of bands as diverse as Wand, The Horrors, The Soft Boys, Felt. It’s a pleasantly trippy ride that leaves you feeling relaxed and a bit bewildered. “Clear Shot” is more about establishing a mood than creating hum-along pop tunes. Strange & dreamy stuff.
