Recorded in Ferndale, Michigan following Eminem's recruitment by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, The Slim Shady LP marks the rapper's debut with a major label, as his first album, Infinite, was released in 1996 on an independent label. The album features production from Dr. Dre and the Bass Brothers, as well as Eminem himself.
Using such musical styles as West Coast hip hop, G-funk, and horrorcore, the majority of Slim Shady LP's lyrical content is written from the perspective of Eminem's alter ego Slim Shady, whom he created on the album's precursor, Slim Shady EP (1997).
